How to Play
Battle Pigs is a quick card game for two. A game takes 6 turns, and here's everything you need to know.
1The goal
Two players battle over 3 sites for 6 turns. Each player sends guinea pigs to the sites. At the end of the game, whoever has more power at a site wins it. Win more sites than your opponent to win the game.
2Getting a game
Click Play and enter your name. You're matched with the next player who's waiting. Each of you gets your own shuffled copy of the deck and starts with 4 cards in hand.
3Reading a card
The text at the bottom of a card describes its ability, if it has one. A card's power badge turns green when an ability has raised it and red when one has lowered it. Click or tap a card to see it larger.
4Your turn
Both players play at the same time. Each turn you have a budget equal to the turn number: 1 on turn 1, 2 on turn 2, and so on, up to 6. Budget you don't spend is lost at the end of the turn.
- Play a card by dragging it from your hand onto your side of a site. Cards you can't afford are dimmed.
- You can have up to 4 cards at each site.
- Until you end your turn, you can change your mind: drag a card you just played to another site, or back to your hand to get its cost back.
- Drag cards within your hand to put them in any order you like.
- When you're done, click End Turn. After that you can't change anything until next turn.
On a phone or tablet, touch and hold a card for a moment before dragging it. A quick swipe scrolls the page instead.
5Hidden plays and the reveal
Your opponent can't see what you play until the turn ends. They don't see the card, the site, or that your hand got smaller. When both players have ended the turn, that turn's cards flip face up one at a time.
One player reveals first: all of their new cards flip in the order they played them, then all of the other player's. Who goes first is random on turn 1 and swaps every turn after that. The game board shows who reveals first this turn.
After the reveal, a new turn starts and each player draws a card.
6Abilities
- On Reveal abilities happen once, when the card flips. Power changes they make are permanent.
- Ongoing abilities work for as long as the card is on the board, including on cards played later. They stop if the card is destroyed.
Some abilities let you choose a target. When you drop that card on a site, the cards you can pick light up, including the card itself if its ability says so. Click one to choose it, or click Take back (or press Esc) to return the card to your hand.
An ability only affects cards that are already face up when it happens. That makes reveal order matter: going second lets your cards react to what your opponent just played.
7Winning
The game ends after both players finish turn 6 and its cards are revealed. Then:
- Each site goes to the player with more power there. Equal power means nobody wins that site.
- The player who wins more sites wins the game.
- If you each win the same number of sites, the player with more total power across all sites wins.
- If total power is equal too, the game is a draw.
Click Play again to be matched for a new game.
8Tips
- You only need 2 of the 3 sites. Sometimes it's worth giving one up to win the others.
- Cheap cards early let you spend your whole budget every turn. Save your big pigs for the last turns.
- Pay attention to who reveals first. If you go second on the final turn, your On Reveal abilities get the last word.
